ABOUT THE 2020 HFFBC CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES
Despite the ongoing reality of the pandemic, we are so pleased to be able to plan for in-person celebrations and reflections of the birth of Jesus Christ this Christmas Eve! Below are some “frequently asked questions” that will help you in your expectations for what we are planning for Christmas Eve this year.
Will the three services be identical?
Almost. There will be Scripture readings, prayers, congregational singing, a homily, and times of quiet contemplation in each of the three services. The only difference is that the 5:00pm and 6:30pm services will include a children’s story.
Will there be a children’s pageant this year?
Unfortunately, we are not going to be doing a children’s pageant this year.
What about singing, or the choir?
There will be plenty of congregational singing (though the wearing of a face covering is required for singing – see below for more health protocols) that celebrate the joy and mystery of Jesus’ birth. However, there will not be an in-person live choir. But there will be special, pre-recorded choir pieces that will lead us into moments of quiet contemplation during the service.
Why are you doing registrations in advance for these services?
We realize that Christmas Eve is one of the most highly attended church services each year. Because we have limited capacity this year because of social distancing, we know it will be more challenging for us to accommodate all who wish to attend – and we know this may create anxiety for those who plan to come as well! So, we are providing three services this year and asking for advanced online registration as a way to get a good expectation as to how to fit as many people safely into our space as possible. We ask that you please only reserve your “ticket” if you indeed plan to actually come.
What if I don’t register in advance? Can I still come?
Of course! However, we have a space limit in the sanctuary, due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols. So if you don’t reserve your place in advance, you may be risking not finding an open space in the sanctuary.
Will there be an overflow room?
Yes, the fellowship hall will be provided as an overflow space, with a giant screen providing a live simulcast of the service.
Will the services be live streamed online?
Yes, all three services will be available via livestream online. You can watch our Christmas Eve service from home live at www.hffbc.org. The service will also be recorded and available for viewing later as well.
COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS
The COVID-19 health safety protocols are the same for the Christmas Eve service as they are for all other large gatherings at the church. See below for the guidelines we ask you to follow, out of love and care for one another:
- If you have a constellation of symptoms and you have not been tested for covid, please stay home. (CDC Symptoms: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose).
- Upon entering the building, you are required to use the hand sanitizer.
- Upon entering the building, if you are over two years old, you are required to wear a mask until you are seated and socially distanced.
- When singing, you are required to wear a mask unless you are able to be at least 8-10 feet away from others
- For adults, social distancing between people not related is six feet.
- Room capacity is at 50%. When you arrive in the sanctuary the ushers will seat you from the front of the sanctuary to the back. When the sanctuary or balcony is at capacity, you may find room in the fellowship hall where the service is being live streamed.
